Admission Requirement: Students applying for entrance must meet the following admission requirements:

1) High School Diploma/GED
2) Take TEAS Test and Meet Minimum Scores Requirement Pass the entrance exam: TEAS Exam with: 54 points in Reading; 50 points in Math & 54 points in Language
3) Must be 18-year-old
4) Interview
5) Clearance on FDLE Level II Background Check
6) Negative Drug Test Results
7) Physical and Immunizations
8) BLS Card
9) Liability Insurance
10) Submit all required forms by designated deadlines
11) Attend orientation sessions as scheduled

Students are selected based on full compliance with requirements.

Board of Nursing will review applications for licensure and address criminal offenses on a case by-case basis. However, according to the Florida Board of Nursing, any applicant who has been convicted of a felony, and civil rights have not been restored, are not eligible for licensure and are not eligible to take the licensing examination. The application will be denied.

Nursing Program Goals, Objectives and Philosophy
Goals and objectives of the Nursing Program are built upon the belief that Registered Nursing programs develop a culturally-aware, technologically-sound, and competent beginning practitioner. Course, unit, classroom, and skills and clinical laboratory objectives for each Nursing course are systematically developed from the Program Objectives and provide the student with the necessary education to meet each objective in a timely manner; and for the graduate to demonstrate the RN Roles and Competencies.

Program Goals
The goal of the program is to train students to become competent nurses who assist those persons that are responsible for facilitating the maintenance of health, the improvement of health status, the prevention of illness, and the alleviation of suffering.

Program Objectives
Upon completion of the Nursing Program, graduates will:
1. utilize therapeutic communication skills when interacting with clients, significant support persons and other members of the healthcare team.
2. demonstrate clinical decision-making skills that reflect evidence-based nursing care of clients and significant support persons.
3. utilize the nursing process to provide individualized care to clients and significant support persons throughout the lifespan.
4. demonstrate, through nursing practice, belief in the innate value of each individual within his/her unique cultural heritage.
5. develop individualized teaching plans that utilize principles of teaching and learning for clients and significant support persons.
6. collaborate with the client, significant support persons, nursing colleagues and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to evaluate achievement of positive client outcomes.
7. apply principles of client care management in the delegation of basic nursing procedures to qualified assistive personnel.
8. utilize nursing informatics and other forms of technologies to deliver optimal client care.
9. demonstrate an awareness of nursing research findings and data collection methods as a means of advancing the professional knowledge base of nursing.
10. facilitate the continuity of care for clients within and among a variety of health care settings.
11. participate in lifelong learning.
12. assess the client’s health status by completing a health history and performing physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and functional assessment.
13. practice within the ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks of Nursing and standards of professional Nursing.
14. Prepare student to participate in the plan of care, implementation, and evaluation of nursing Care in hospitals, physicians’ offices, health care agencies, school, and extended care facilities.
15. Develop critical thinking skills in providing care for patients that are in needs for physical and emotional
16. Nursing care including the administration of medications, therapeutic treatments, and rehabilitation assistance.
17. Demonstrate competence in the development of inquiry relevant to practice, education, or administration;
18. Develop and utilize leadership strategies that foster improvement of health care.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Associate of Science Degree in Nursing is designed to prepare the student for a career as a registered nurse. The mission of the Brightmed Health Institute Nursing Program is to prepare competent, compassionate, and culturally sensitive entry-level nursing graduates whose professional practice encompasses legal and ethical decision making. Brightmed is committed to providing a nursing program that is accessible to a diverse community of learners. Delivered by a dedicated Faculty, the program provides a collaborative teaching-learning environment to promote critical thinking, lifelong learning, and positive role in a changing and global society across the lifespan. The program is committed to accomplishing this mission through the use of effective and diverse instructional methods that encompass both traditional as well as technology-based strategies.

The student who has met all educational and institutional requirements for an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Brightmed Health Institute is eligible to have his/her name submitted to the Florida Board of Nursing to be considered as a candidate for the National Council Licensure Examination for the Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). The Florida Board of Nursing is the state agency authorized to determine if the applicant qualifies to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Florida.
